Anyone Potty Training?

Posted by phbaby1 on 2008.06.26 at 16:38
Hi Ladies-

We're all around our 21st month with our little ones. Anyone thinking of starting potty training? My daughter has been tugging at her diaper and has mentioned before she goes #2. We got a potty seat for her and she knows how to flush the toilet and will wipe her "no no". She's even gone pee pee a couple of times in the potty, but I'm not really forcing her at this stage.

Does anyone have any suggestions for this milestone?

no suggestions , but I'm starting potty training next week- my daughter does the same things- lets me know when she has to poop, loves her potty, and has been trying to pull her diaper off -we'll see how it goes

My doctor wants me to start potty training, but I'm not ready!!! I bought a $1.99 potty at Ikea, but it's hiding under my bed.

Her suggestions: let your kid watch you use the toilet, start giving them words for the different stuff they do, wash their hands after diaper changes to set the stage for later.

I try to let Max go naked, but we live in San Francisco, and it's never warm enough. The other day I had him in a hat, shirt, leg warmers and shoes, so he could let his diaper bits blow in the wind =) He is always so surprised when he pees! Sometimes when he is naked he will bring us a diaper so he can pee in it.

BTW thanks for posting - I love reading the posts here, I just always forget to post myself!!

I tried to potty train Molly a week or so ago (she was 20 months but I thought she was ready). She now gets on the potty for about 3 seconds whenever she sees it but doesn't actually pee or poo. I even SHOWED her what to do and she just looked at me and said, 'Bum bum'. Right.

ours is showing interest- mostly because one day a week we keep 2.5year old twins who are her best friends and she wants to be on the potty like them.
we let her go naked in the evenings and she has started to tell us after she pees and ask for the potty, so that's a good first step in my book.
we are not training at this point, just letting her experiment and learn on her own.
it's very different for every kid. the twins just started a few months ago, but i know a girl one month older than mine and she's already trained.
listen to your instincts, and don't push- that always backfires.
good luck!
